Northeast Florida History: The main export crop in British East Florida during late 1700’s was indigo. Slaves were used to cultivate the land and process the dye. Natives captured for slavery often escaped as they were familiar with the local geography. Africans were at a disadvantage since they were relocated to a foreign land.
